Tsutsushimi

Tsutsushimi
An attitude of discreet, scrupulous and circumspect propriety, to be adopted especially when serving superiors including the kami. It was prescribed by Yoshikawa, Koretari, and by his disciple Yamazaki, Ansai in the teachings of what came to be known as Suiga Shinto, where tsutsushimi was correlated with the Neo-Confucian virtue of reverence.
