Sanjuban-shin

Sanjuban-shin
Thirty named kami, one for each day in the month, identified by the Tendai sect of Buddhism in the Heian period. The idea seems to have begun with the famous Tendai monk Ennin (792-862). The deities are believed to protect the nation, and those who keep the Buddhist Lotus Sutra (Hokekyo). They are particularly emphasised by Nichiren Buddhists.
